Don't be a cow!

Have you ever heard of the expression: 'Don't be a cow?' It means something along the lines of: 'Don't be so unpleasant'.

I don't know where it comes from, because cows seem alright to me! They're neither particularly friendly, nor hostile, they're just cows being cows. They're munching their grass, waiting to be turned into Big Macs.

Cows are more than walking hamburgers, they're art!

At least that's what I thought, but cows have in fact inspired the CowParade which was sponsored by US Money Reserve in 2011 when it was held in Austin. The CowParade is the most recognized public art event in the world. CowParade exhibits, held in 75 cities in 30 countries on six continents to date, have produced more than 5,000 of the signature cow canvases by local artists.

Cow catching a train?

The cows are made from fiberglass, decorated by local artists and then distributed over the city centre, in public places such as train stations, important avenues and park. Each city and culture puts its own stamp on the cows. After the exhibition which lasts many months, the cows are auctioned off and the proceeds donated to charity.

I would look great on a cow! I just know it!

In this online gallery you can view all the different cows. It's amazing what you can do with a cow! I love the one with the fruit on it. And I wouldn't mind having one in my back yard! I think I would look great on it.

Now if only I can make enough papier maché mush to create own cow….

How do you like these arty cows? Would you have one in your yard?

Back around 2000 -Buffalo did something like that with Buffalos, not cows and Hubby and I drove all over town to snap pix with them. Some unique art!

  2. Years ago when I lived in Chicago we had the painted cows all over town. It was so cool to come across them in unexpected places! There are still some left around here and there, though I think many of them were sold. Other towns have done other similar things--I think Los Angeles had artist-decorated angels around town at one point. I wonder what Las Vegas could do? Hee hee. The possibilities are endless...
