Parenting 101: how to hit the jackpot
There are some words I'm not fond off. Like 'No', 'Not now' and 'I'll do it later!' To avoid these words I've trained myself to ask the ríght questions, so I'll get the ríght answer.
Yesterday I wanted my son to do his homework. But I didn't say:
'Go and do you homework!'
Parenting 101
Instead I asked: 'Jan, will you clean up the mess that is your room?' Immediately the answer came: 'I can't! I have to do my homework!' And I thought smugly:
'Jackpot!'
We just recently started doing allowances at our house so the kids earn what they get...hopefully they will stick to cleaning their rooms and stuff.
