Books versus magazines!

I think magazines are a lot like cars: they loose their value very fast.

A car loses half its worth as soon as you drive it around the corner. A magazine loses its worth as soon as you've read the last page.

Books are a better investment

Books on the other hand, are a much bettter investment. After reading them you put them in your bookcase, and books are often read more than once. Also, you can sell them on if you don't want to keep them.

The ultimate battle of magazines versus books!

Magazine cons

  1. They are relatively expensive
  2. They're filled with ads and advertorials
  3. They're too wimpy to stay upright in your bookcase
  4. Their content gets old really fast
  5. If you want to impress somebody, it's easier to say: 'I just finished Tolstoi' than to say 'I just finished Tatler!'
  6. Magazines have a tendency to make your living room look messy

Magazine Pros

  1. They're great if you have the attention span of a mosquito
  2. They're great to kill mosquito's with
  3. They usually cost less than a book

Which side are you on? The side of magazines or on the side of books?
Can you think of any more pros, and cons of magazines and books?

  1. I leave magazines for when I am at the doctors or hairdressers or standing in line at the supermarket. Books are forever. I have to admit that we more often buy digital book just because they are cheaper and we don't have a lot of room.
I enjoyed reading your post as always.

  2. YOu have good points and I think I might have the attention of a mosquito, I have narrowed down to only 2 subscriptions and soon only one. I had this crazy notion that I would get back to projects or recipes I dog eared, ha ha. Thanks for sharing on the Friday Features party this week. Hope you have a great week!

  3. Great post! I love paper books (not electronic) and, I have to admit, I'm a magazine-aholic. I like books for when I have time to lounge and magazines for the times when my attention span is like a mosquito! Thanks for sharing at My Flagstaff Home!

  4. I love both, for different reasons and at different times. In my daily life, I rarely have time to read magazines, though I will keep one by my side when we watch TV at night, to browse through on the commercials! But I read books daily, every day, and they are a huge part of my life.

Most of my magazines I save for road trips in the car - they are my special treat! I love the feeling of being a passenger on a trip (my husband prefers to drive anyway) and having absolutely nothing to do but flip through some magazines. I get car sick if I read a book, but I can manage glancing down at a mag and then back up at the outside. It's the one time when I can ignore my to-do's and everything on the web (I don;t have a smart phone) and just totally relax.

    Great post!
