Use your parenting skills to help others!

It's hard to deny the fact that we need more caring, passionate people leading communities. Many people, from teenagers to seniors, are struggling with all kinds of of problems and they need all the help they can get.

Women, especially moms, are in a unique position to do so much more in society.

The parenting skills you have garnered over the years, as well as the nurturing and empathetic nature you develop as a mom, are great assets to help others.

If you love helping people, here are some tips to help you get started.

Work with Other Passionate People

Doing things for yourself can be very challenging. Because how do you get started? And what should you do?

Fortunately, you don’t have to do everything yourself. There are a lot of people who want to help the community and other people as much as you do; just like you, they too don’t know how to get started.

Now is the perfect time to connect with other passionate people and find ways to contribute to the community.

The next time you get together with other moms in the neighborhood, talk about possible activities that will help others in the community. A bake sale to raise funds for the local park or allocating time to listen to moms who are struggling with their children are two simple things you can do right away.

You can also reach out to existing movements or organizations and offer your services. If you’ve got a succesful blog, you can use your blogging knowledge to help local branches of organizations like the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence gain more exposure. Yes, it is really that simple.

Lead by Example

Another challenge faced by those who want to do more in their communities is actually starting something. The lack of support from others and barriers you may face along the way can be very discouraging. Just go for it!

If you’re doing something for a good cause and you know you’re helping others in need, don’t let anything hold you back.

There have been countless occasions where the act of a single person turned into a massive movement. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and its infamous Team in Training were once just Bruce Cleland wanting to honor his daughter’s victory against Leukemia.

You, too, can be the start of something big.

Be Part of the System

There are also ways you can help people by becoming part of the system. A lot of my friends have started pursuing masters in social work online because the degree allows them to actually participate in helping teens at schools. More importantly, top universities such as Rutgers Online are making MSW online programs – and other programs that will equip you to help others better – more accessible.

With the right set of skills and a degree to back them up, you can assume more important roles in the community. You can be a community leader, a school counselor, and a social worker, expanding your ability to help others even further.

Summing up

These are some of the tips to help you get started with contributing more to the community and helping others. What’s more important is that you make that first step and get started. A lot of people need help and every little thing you do counts.
