Should your christmas tree have a theme?
I like my life as easygoing as possible. When I can cut corners, I do. So when it comes to decorating my Christmas tree I take the easy approach.
The Slap 'n Dash way to decorating your Christmas tree
I just kinda throw the Christmas ornaments in there. Don't get me wrong though. I do have standards. Like, I make sure the ornaments are nicely spread out across the whole tree. I don't want the backside of the tree to feel left out.
Got Christmas cards? Just throw them in your Christmas tree
Christmas trees make a very handy spot for Christmas cards. Though in this digital day and age I don't get as many Christmas cards as I used to, but if I do I just throw them in my Christmas tree.
Themes for your Christmas tree
However, I know there are others out there who go through great lenghts to decorate their Christmas tree. And I applaud them. I greatly admire their trees. Possible themes for Christmas trees are:
- A colour theme. Like purple, gold or silver
- Classic, you know the kind of tree your grandma used to have.
- Modern
- Alternative
- Trendy
- Creative, like a Christmas tree made of books or balloons! Yes that's a thing!
- Children's crafts tree: a tree filled with stuff your kids made. Like guirlandes made from macaroni.
- Minimalist
- Edible tree, think candy canes and chocolate christmas decorations
- Upside down: there are people who like to hang their Christmas tree upside down. Don't ask me why, 'cause I don't know either. But it sure is different.
Summing up
So to answer my own question: 'Should your Christmas tree have a theme?' No, it doesn't have to. Unless it makes you happy. Then by all means, knock yourself out!

We used to have two Christmas trees, one upstairs with a theme (the 'fancy' tree) and one downstairs without at theme (the 'family' tree). Now I just decorate the tree in the same colours as the room it is in - with some allowance for sentimental ornaments! Thank you for sharing, and for being a part of the Hearth and Soul Link Party. Hope you are having a great weekend!
