Is blogging costing you money?
Eleven years ago, heavily pregnant with my fourth child, I decided I needed a website. I used the programme Freeway to create one, and after a few days there it was: my very own website! It contained one picture and three links, and man was I proud!
Such a beautiful website should of course be shared with the world, so I forked over 500 dollar for hosting, and my own domain name.
Then I discovered Blogger!
Four years later I discovered Blogger: a free way to create a blog/website. As the available templates put my little website to shame I decided to make the switch. So I cancelled my hosting service, and only paid 10 dollars for my domain name: momfever.com.
I know the general consensus is, that if you want to be a professional blogger, you should do your own hosting. But for now, I like Blogger too much to change.
Does blogging cost you money?
Do you think it's important to get your own domain name?
I completely agree! I purchased a .com for my blog, but I've never done anything with it because I'm so content with Blogger.
I work full-time outside the home, so I can't devote the time required to be a professional blogger. It's just a hobby. With that in mind, I try to be very conscientious about spending money on it.
I don't think it's totally necessary anymore. I know so many great blogs that have HUGE followings, that still use Blogger. I think the thing that sets people apart, these days, is a good design. I say, if you want to take it to the next level, don't host yourself, but hire a great designer, instead. Great topic!
Hi Paige,
a good design is key, you are right! That, and good original content.
Its something I aspire to but I'm not ready yet.
